Water bowls: A Dirty Secret



Do you want to know a dirty little secret about your dogs waterbowl? 

According to, A 2011 germ study , pet dishes were analyzed and considered to be one of the top the fourth dirtiest places in your house. 

How often do you clean your dog bowls? How do you clean your those bowls? Have you ever notice that slimy feel on the inside of  the bowl? 

Of course there is good bacteria and bad bacteria.  But let’s not get into all the details about the types of bacteria that may be in your boxers bowl. 

Would you drink water out of a glass that’s been sitting there for over a week or longer? Probably not (and if you do spare us the details). 

It’s simple, to keep your dog healthy, clean the bowl regularly and make sure there is fresh water.

Here are some great tips:

  1. Get rid of plastic bowls. Use ceramic or stainless steel bowls. 
  2. Pet dishes should be washed daily, either in a the dishwasher or scrubbed by hand with hot soapy water, then rinsed. 
  3. Try not to use an abrasive sponge when cleaning, as the scratches and grooves leave areas for bacteria to build. 
  4. Baking soda is also a great cleaning agent and alternative.
